Transferring a Tag
How to transfer ownership of a QrioTag to another person — step by step for both the sender and the recipient.
Transferring moves full ownership of a tag — and its profile — to someone else's QrioTag account. Use transfer when selling an item, giving it as a gift, or passing it to a new owner.
Transfer vs. Deactivate vs. Delete
Transfer
Tag stays active. Profile and scan history are preserved. New owner takes over completely.
Deactivate
Tag stops working. Scanning shows nothing. The new owner cannot use it.
Delete
Tag is permanently removed. All data is lost and the tag can never be used again.
If someone else will use the item, Transfer is always the right choice.
Initiating a Transfer
Go to the Tag Detail Page
Navigate to your tags list and click on the tag you want to transfer.
Click "Transfer Tag"
Find the "Transfer Tag" button on the tag detail page (in the actions menu or tag management section).
Enter the Recipient's Details

| Recipient Email | The email address of the person receiving the tag |
| Reason | Optional — e.g., "Sold the item" or "Gift for my daughter" |
The recipient doesn't need a QrioTag account yet. If they don't have one, they'll receive an invitation to create one before accepting.
Send the Transfer Request
Click "Send Transfer Request." The tag status changes to PENDING and the recipient receives an email with a transfer code and expiration time.
Recipient — Accepting a Transfer
Check Your Email
Look for an email with subject "You have a tag transfer request." It includes the sender's name, tag name, a transfer code, and a link.
Log In or Create an Account
Sign in to your existing QrioTag account, or create a free account if you don't have one.
Enter the Transfer Code
Click the link in the email (or go to the transfer acceptance page) and enter the transfer code.
Click "Accept Transfer"
The tag appears in your tags list immediately. You have full ownership and can edit everything.
What Transfers With the Tag

After the transfer completes, you will no longer see this tag in your list and will stop receiving scan notifications for it.
Transfer Statuses
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| PENDING | Waiting for the recipient to accept |
| ACCEPTED | Transfer complete — tag is in the new account |
| REJECTED | Recipient declined — tag remains with you |
| CANCELLED | You cancelled before the recipient responded |
| EXPIRED | Recipient did not respond in time — tag remains with you |
Cancelling Before Acceptance
- Go to the tag detail page → pending transfer section
- Click "Cancel Transfer" and confirm
The tag stays in your account and the transfer code is invalidated immediately.
