Rewards — Incentivize Returns

How to offer, manage, and pay rewards to people who find and return your lost items through QrioTag.

Offering a reward motivates finders to go the extra mile to return your item. QrioTag's built-in reward system handles the full lifecycle — from offering to payment and verification.

How It Works

Offer a Reward

Set an amount when marking an item as lost. The reward appears prominently on the scan page.

Finder Sees It

Anyone who scans your lost tag sees the reward amount and a contact form to reach you.

Arrange Return

Communicate through anonymous messaging to arrange a safe handover.

Confirm & Pay

Mark the item as found, confirm the return, and record the payment.

Offering a Reward

You can offer a reward when you mark an item as lost, or add one to an already-lost item.

Go to the Lost Tag

Navigate to your tags list and click the tag marked as LOST.

Click "Offer Reward"

If you did not set a reward when marking the item lost, click the "Offer Reward" button on the tag detail page.

Confirm

Click "Offer Reward" — the status is set to OFFERED and the amount appears on your scan page.

The reward is only visible on the scan page when the tag is in LOST status. Changing the status removes it from the scan page.

Confirming a Return and Paying

Arrange the Handover

Use messaging to coordinate a safe meeting place with the finder.

Mark the Item as Found

Go to the tag and click "Mark as Found" (see Lost & Found). The reward status changes to CLAIMED.

Click "Mark as Paid"

After handing over the payment, click "Mark as Paid" in the Rewards section.

Add Payment Reference (Optional)

Enter a transaction ID or reference number (Venmo, PayPal, etc.) for your records.

Confirm

The reward status changes to PAID — a public certificate is generated.

Cancelling a Reward

If you found the item yourself or no longer want to offer a reward:

  1. Go to the tag detail page → Rewards section
  2. Click "Cancel Reward" and confirm

The reward status changes to CANCELLED and disappears from the scan page.

If a finder has already claimed the reward (status: CLAIMED), cancelling may not be possible. Contact support to resolve.

Reward Statuses

Disputes

Tips for Offering Rewards

Be Reasonable

$20–$50 is often enough for everyday items like keys or wallets. Match the reward to the item's value and importance.

Add a Description

Context helps — "This laptop has my PhD thesis on it" makes finders more motivated.

Always Follow Through

Pay the reward if the item is returned. Your reputation and trust in the platform matter.

Meet Safely

Choose a public location — coffee shop, police station lobby, or similar — for any in-person handover.
