Tag Insurance
How to protect your tagged items with QrioTag insurance — coverage tiers, subscribing, filing claims, and managing your policy.
QrioTag offers optional tag insurance — financial coverage if a tagged item is permanently lost, stolen, or damaged. Add insurance per tag to protect the items that matter most.
Tag insurance covers the item the tag is attached to, not the tag itself. If you insure a pet tag on your dog's collar, the coverage applies to the animal's value — not the $15 tag.
What's Covered
Permanently Lost
Item has an active, insured tag and cannot be recovered after being reported lost.
Stolen
Item is reported stolen and not recovered.
Damaged
Item is damaged (coverage depends on your tier).
Insurance Tiers
| Tier | Coverage | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| BASIC | Lower coverage amount | Everyday items — keys, wallets, bags |
| STANDARD | Medium coverage amount | Mid-value items — electronics, bikes |
| PREMIUM | Higher coverage amount | High-value items — expensive devices, equipment |
Check the insurance page in your dashboard for current pricing and exact coverage amounts for each tier.
Subscribing to Insurance
Go to the Tag Detail Page
Navigate to your tags list and click on the tag you want to insure.
Click "Add Insurance"
Find the Insurance section and click "Add Insurance" or "Get Insured."
Choose a Tier
Select the tier that matches the item's value. Each option shows the monthly premium, coverage amount, and included benefits.
Review and Pay
Confirm the details — premium, coverage amount, start and expiration dates — then click "Subscribe" to proceed through Stripe.
Confirmation
After payment, the tag detail page shows an "Insured" badge. Coverage is active immediately.
Insurance must be purchased before an item is lost or stolen. You cannot add coverage to a tag already in LOST or STOLEN status.
Filing a Claim
Mark the Item as Lost or Stolen
First, mark the tag as LOST or STOLEN through the normal process.
Open the Insurance Section
On the tag detail page, scroll to the Insurance section and click "File Claim."
The "File Claim" button only appears when the tag is in LOST or STOLEN status with active insurance.
Fill in the Claim Form
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| What happened | Describe how the item was lost, stolen, or damaged |
| When it happened | Date of the incident |
| Additional notes | Supporting details, police report number, etc. |
Submit
Click "Submit Claim." The status changes to FILED and you receive a confirmation email.

Cancelling Insurance
