Activating Your First Tag

How to activate a physical QrioTag by entering its unique ID, or how to create a free digital tag directly from your account.

There are two ways to get a QrioTag into your account: activate a physical tag you purchased, or create a digital tag for free — no hardware required.

Activate a Physical Tag

You bought a QrioTag from the shop. Enter the printed ID to link it to your account.

Create a Digital Tag

No physical tag needed. Generate a QR code instantly and download or share it — free on every plan.

Creating a Digital Tag (Free)

Digital tags let you protect anything immediately — no order required. The QR code is generated entirely in your account and can be printed, downloaded, or shared as a link.

Go to Your Tags Page

Navigate to Tags in the dashboard sidebar or go to app.qriotag.com/dashboard/tags.

Click "Create Digital Tag"

Look for the "+ Create Digital Tag" or "New Digital Tag" button at the top of the tags list.

Name Your Item

Give it a short descriptive name (e.g. Work Laptop, Camera Bag, Event Badge).

Choose a Tag Type

TypeUse Case
Tag / Card / StickerKeys, bags, laptops, wallet items
PetDog or cat collar tag
TravelLuggage and backpacks
Digital IDBusiness card with LinkedIn/social links
Crypto WalletENS address, crypto identity
DocumentPassport or ID recovery (privacy-safe)
Phone / LaptopDevice recovery sticker

Choose a Visibility Level

Same options as physical tags — PUBLIC, CONTACT_ONLY, EMERGENCY_ONLY, or PRIVATE.

Download or Share

Once created, you can:

  • Download the QR code as a PNG and print it yourself
  • Copy the link to share digitally
  • View the tag to set up a full profile

Digital tags work exactly like physical tags — scan tracking, lost/found, messaging, and rewards all work the same way. The only difference is you print (or share) the QR code yourself.

Activating a Physical Tag

After you create your account and receive your physical QrioTag, activating it links the tag to your account. Once active, anyone who scans the QR code sees the information you set up.

What Is a QrioTag ID?

Every physical QrioTag has a unique identifier printed directly on it:

QRIO-XXXXXXXX

For example: QRIO-A7K2M9P4 — a combination of letters and numbers after the QRIO- prefix.

Where to Find Your Tag ID

Tag TypeWhere to Look
Keychain (QrioTag)Back of the keychain
Card (QrioCard)Back of the card, below the QR code
Pet Tag (QrioPet)Back of the collar tag
Travel Tag (QrioTravel)On the luggage label
Sticker (QrioSticker)On the sticker border or packaging
Bike Tag (QrioBikeTag)Back of the tag or in packaging
Band (QrioBand)Inside the band or on the clasp
Metal Tag (QrioMetalTag)Engraved on the back

The QrioTag ID is also printed on the packaging slip that came with your order — useful if the text on the tag is too small to read.

Step-by-Step Activation

Get to the activation page in any of these ways:

  • Click "Activate Tag" in the quick actions on your dashboard
  • Click the "Activate Tag" button in the navigation menu
  • Go directly to app.qriotag.com/dashboard/activate

Enter Your QrioTag ID

Type (or paste) the full ID from your physical tag, including the QRIO- prefix.

Enter the ID exactly as printed — capital letters matter. If you get "Tag not found," watch for similar-looking characters: the letter O vs the number 0, and the letter I vs the number 1.

Name Your Item

Give your item a short, descriptive name that will appear to finders. Examples: Car Keys, Max the Dog, Work Laptop, Blue Suitcase.

Choose a Visibility Level

Select how much information to show when someone scans your tag.

PUBLIC

Everything — item name, photos, owner name, contact info. Best for luggage and items where maximum recovery is the priority.

CONTACT_ONLY

Item name and an anonymous contact form only — no personal details shown. Recommended for most items.

EMERGENCY_ONLY

Only emergency medical info and contacts. For medical bands and emergency ID tags.

PRIVATE

Nothing shown — the scan is silently recorded. Useful if you only want scan tracking.

You can change the visibility level at any time from tag profile settings.

Confirm Activation

Review your QrioTag ID, item name, and visibility level, then click "Activate Tag."

Done — Your Tag Is Active

You will see a success message. From here you can:

  • Set up a full profile — Add photos, descriptions, and type-specific details
  • View the tag detail page — See your QR code, scan history, and settings
  • Activate another tag — If you have more to set up

Activating on Mobile

Activation works perfectly on mobile — the form is fully responsive.

If you have multiple tags, activate up to 20 at once.

Open Bulk Activation

On the activation page, click "Activate Multiple Tags" or "Bulk Activate."

Enter Multiple Tag IDs

Enter up to 20 QrioTag IDs, one per line:

QRIO-A7K2M9P4
QRIO-B3N5R8T2
QRIO-C9F1G6H7

Name and Configure Each Tag

Give each tag a name and choose its visibility level. You can configure them individually or apply the same settings to all.

Activate All

Click "Activate All" to link all tags to your account at once.

Bulk activation is limited to 20 tags per batch. For more than 20 tags, run multiple batches.

What Happens After Activation

Tag Goes ACTIVE

Status changes from PENDING_SETUP to ACTIVE — the QR code is now live.

Scan Tracking Starts

Every scan is logged with time, location, and method (QR or NFC).

Notifications Enabled

You receive an alert whenever your tag is scanned (configurable in settings).

Profile Ready to Complete

Add photos, descriptions, and type-specific details to your tag profile.

Privacy at Activation

When you activate a tag, your account becomes the sole owner of its encrypted identifier. The QR code itself never exposes your name, phone, or address — finders only see the visibility level you chose and the message you wrote.

See Privacy & Security for a plain-English walkthrough of encrypted tag IDs and anonymous messaging.
